Prizes
Student track
Fifteen (15) scholarships of $1,000 each (five per group) awarded to eligible student entrants: 5 for middle school (7th–9th), 5 for high school (10th–12th), and 5 for college students.
Non-student track
Five (5) prizes of $1,000 each for eligible non-student entrants, separate from the student scholarships.
Prize details and tax reporting are described in the terms below. U.S. dollars.
Who may enter
- Student track: You must be a currently enrolled student in one of these groups:
- Middle school (7th–9th grade)
- High school (10th–12th grade)
- College student
- Non-student track: Open to individuals who are not currently enrolled as students in middle school, high school, or a degree-granting college or university.
- You may not enter both tracks. Void where prohibited. Sponsor employees and administrators are not eligible.
Register & pay entry fee
Entry fee: $20 per entry via Stripe. After payment, follow instructions in your confirmation email to submit your essay by the deadline.
Student entry
You must be a currently enrolled student. Entry fee $20.
Non-student entry
For entrants who are not currently students (see rules). Entry fee $20.
Official rules
- Sponsor. Offered by The Building Brighter Futures Foundation of Nevada (“Sponsor”), with this site for registration and payment unless otherwise stated.
- Contest period. Submissions due by October 15, 2026. Winners presented on or about November 1, 2026 (subject to change with notice here).
- Essay requirements. Original work in English; follow any prompt, word limit, and AI-use rules from Sponsor.
- Judging. Panel selected by Sponsor; decisions are final.
- Prizes. Student track awards fifteen (15) $1,000 scholarships total (five per student group: middle, high, college). Non-student track awards five (5) $1,000 prizes. Taxes are winners’ responsibility.
- Entry fee. $20 is non-refundable except as required by law or at Sponsor discretion.
- Disqualification. Sponsor may disqualify entries that violate these rules or misrepresent eligibility.
Terms & conditions
Agreement. By paying, you certify eligibility for your chosen track and accept these terms and rules.
Student eligibility. Sponsor may request enrollment verification.
Non-student eligibility. Entrants certify they meet the non-student definition above.
Intellectual property. You grant Sponsor a non-exclusive license to use your name, likeness, and submission for contest-related promotion, subject to applicable law.
Privacy. Payment is processed by Stripe; Sponsor may receive information needed to run the contest.
Release. To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release Sponsor and this site from liability relating to the contest or prizes.
Governing law. State of Nevada, with venue in Nevada courts where permitted.
Changes. Sponsor may update this page; continued participation constitutes acceptance.
